Vibhavari is a prestigious organization recognized at both the national and state levels in the field of sanitation. The organization has played a key role as a partner in planning and implementing the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), particularly in the Ujjain and Bhopal divisions as well as in Rewa district.

Vibhavari has developed and adopted customized strategies for various target groups including rural women, school children, public representatives, and government officials at the district and state levels, focusing on their skill development and behavior change.

Social Movement -TSC

Agua Bahini – Women-Led Sanitation Campaign

The Agua Bahini campaign, launched by Vibhavari, originated in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh with the aim of transforming the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) into a widespread social movement. For the first time, rural women were brought to the forefront of sanitation efforts. These women were trained and motivated to promote hygiene and sanitation practices in their own villages and were honored with the title Agua Bahinis, literally meaning “Leader Sisters.”

The campaign received overwhelming support from rural communities, with women voluntarily taking responsibility for turning their villages into ‘Nirmal Grams’ (clean villages). As a result of their dedicated efforts, eight villages in Rewa district received the Nirmal Gram Award from the Government of India.

To further strengthen the movement, several training modules and exposure visits were organized for public representatives, encouraging them to replicate the success in their own areas. The campaign continues to thrive, with thousands of women actively promoting sanitation across numerous villages in the region.

Jagran – A Community-Based Sanitation Awareness Program

Jagran is an ongoing initiative designed as an in-situ training-cum-workshop under the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC). The program has achieved remarkable success by motivating residents of nearly 100 villages to adopt improved sanitation practices. One of its key strengths lies in its inclusive approach, as it actively involved almost every villager in the participating communities.

Our Projects

1. Solid-Liquid Waste Management Project – Ajnas Panchayat, Dewas District

The Solid-Liquid Waste Management Project for Ajnas Panchayat in Dewas district was sanctioned by the Zila Panchayat, Dewas. As part of the awareness component, Vibhavari organized various activities to educate the community on sanitation and solid-liquid waste management. In the implementation phase, the organization provided rickshaws for door-to-door waste collection and constructed a solid waste treatment unit to ensure effective waste processing and disposal.

2. Awareness Campaign for Solid Waste Management under Swachh Bharat Mission, Municipal Corporation Dewas (M.P.)

With financial support from the Municipal Corporation of Dewas, Vibhavari implemented an awareness campaign aimed at promoting effective solid waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The primary objective of the campaign was to educate urban residents about the importance of waste segregation at source, reduce indiscriminate waste disposal and encourage community participation in maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.

As part of the initiative, Vibhavari organized a series of outreach activities including:

  • Door-to-door awareness drives to inform households about the benefits of waste segregation and proper disposal methods.
  • Street plays (nukkad nataks) and rallies to engage the public and spread key messages in an interactive and culturally relevant manner.
  • Workshops and orientation sessions for resident welfare associations, local vendors, and school children to build long-term behavioral change
  • Distribution of IEC (Information, Education & Communication) materials, such as leaflets, posters, and banners, across various parts of the city.
  • Collaboration with sanitation workers and ward-level officials to ensure uniform message delivery and community mobilization.

The campaign successfully reached a large section of the urban population and contributed to greater awareness and community involvement in improving urban sanitation standards. It played a significant role in supporting Dewas city’s mission towards a cleaner, healthier urban environment.

Vibhavari has been recognized as a ‘TEAM OF EXPERTS’ for designing and imparting training on WWM concept. Vibhavari has also developed training modules and activity kit (Shibli ka Jhola) on IEC aspects of WWM. These items were distributed by UNICEF in all Ashram Schools of Tribal Dept. of Govt. of MP. This has benefited thousands of students and their families.

Vibhavari, with the support of UNICEF, implemented a project on Grey Water Management under the “Wise Water Management” initiative in Jabalpur and Dhar districts. The project aimed to promote the sustainable and efficient use of household wastewater (grey water) through community-driven solutions. To achieve this, a series of awareness campaigns, capacity-building sessions, and practical demonstrations were organized to educate local communities and school children on simple yet effective methods of grey water reuse—such as using treated water for kitchen gardens, plantations, and other non-potable applications. The initiative focused on reducing water wastage, improving sanitation, and fostering environmental sustainability at the grassroots level. Through active community participation and behavior change, the project set a strong precedent for integrated and sustainable water resource management in both semi-urban and rural settings.
